Good Morning,
As England celebrates the Queen’s
Diamond Jubilee there’s not much to be jubilant about here in the U.S…
as far as the economy is concerned. Markets will try to shake off that
awful trading session on Friday following dismal jobs numbers
that were well off the mark of economist estimates. Equities took a
hair-cut to the tune of 2% or more by day’s end. With very little on
the menu of U.S. economic appetizers to start the week, investors will
look overseas for some direction. Unfortunately,
things aren’t much better across the pond. The Eurozone debt crisis
persists and worries about Greece and Spain continue to fuel the
pessimistic fire surrounding sovereign debt and the contagion that
threatens to bring down the entire regions, if not the world’s,
economy. Last week’s U.S. manufacturing numbers left little to be
excited about and China’s PMI is indicating that things aren’t looking
so good on the other side of the globe. The Chinese manufacturing index
fell 2.9 points to 50.4 from the previous months
reading. Technically, China is still growing but at a snail’s pace.
U.S. auto sales had a strong May with Chrysler sales up 30% and Toyota
sales up 87%. Have a great day!
