I don’t know what’s more concerning:
traders that don’t understand the risks that they are taking when
allocating huge sums of money or the fact that Spanish bond yields are
at 6.71% even after European finance ministers agree to give the
country €100 billion. To make matters worse, there’s one small detail
the EU hasn’t yet figured out…exactly, how much it’s going to take to
keep the country afloat. Throw in the fact that Greek banks saw an
exodus of $1 billion ahead of this weekend’s election
and you have a trifecta of uncertainty for today’s trading session.
Here at home, investors will digest economic data, released earlier
this morning, that showed May’s producer price index falling 1% . Also
released today were retail sales numbers that showed
a decline of .2% last month as falling gas prices had people spending
less of their hard earned money at the pump. JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon
will testify before congress today in an attempt to explain the $2
billion loss the bank reported as a result of bets
tied to corporate bonds. “Insufficient risk controls” and “traders who
didn’t understand the risk” are rumored to be the culprits. Have a
great day!
